2001 Gibson Explorer
2001 Gibson Explorer
The original 1976 Gibson Explorer has long been a staple of Gibson’s reissue campaigns. This reissue features a Korina body with a fixed neck and a white finish on all but the face of the headstock. The unbound ebony fingerboard is loaded with dot markers and they, along with the white-black-white laminated pickguard, three black speed knobs and chrome pickups with black surrounds, give it an air of understated class for an otherwise flashy design.
The nut width is 1 11/16.” The tuners are mini Grover Rotomatics with a chrome finish. The Chrome ABR-1 bridge predates the switch to the Nashville bridge used on more recent Gibson models. The humbucking pickups are wound with a more traditional output, reminiscent of original PAF’s, with lots of character. They are hand wired into a three-way toggle and three traditional pots, volume, volume and tone.
Overall, the Explorer is in virtually untouched condition with few, if any signs of play or use. The original hardshell case is in similarly clean condition with all case candy intact.
