This Iris D-WH is a 25 ½” scale square shouldered dreadnought with an Adirondack spruce top, Indian Rosewood back and sides and a mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard and an ebony bridge. The longer scale and large body volume add depth and dynamics to the tone, with comfortable and easy to play “D” body contours. The understated appointments of this D-WH start with the headstock logo, our simple flower motif minus the “IRIS” lettering. Similarly, the binding is Ivoroid throughout with a black-white-black purfling on top only and a simple black-white-black pattern for the rosette. There is no pickguard mounted, though a Willie Watson pickguard has been matched to the guitar and it can be installed if so desired. The standard Iris neck carve, beginning as a “C” Shape and tapering to a “D” profile as you go from the first fret to the twelfth. The unbound fingerboard and bridge have been upgraded to ebony for this example. The nut width is 1 ¾” and the bridge spacing is 2 ⅜.” The D-WH, named for our head of CNC Will Hylton, has a big bold voice. While the appointments are understated, the wood selection stands out. The Adirondack top and rosewood back and sides were chosen for their visual appeal as well as their sonic qualities. The top is a wide expanse of evenly grained and evenly toned Adirondack, while the straight grained and well quartered back and sides show a color and variety not often seen on new guitar builds.
